Transformers: Autobots for the Nintendo DS came out in 2007, published by Activision. It was one of the tie-in games for the live-action movie, and on the DS it offered a portable, scaled-down take on the big robot action. It fit right in with that era of handheld games that tried to capture a console feel with simpler graphics and more straightforward missions.

You choose an Autobot character and control them directly, driving through open city areas to find missions. The main goal is to stop the Decepticons by completing story objectives and side tasks, which often involve combat or racing. The key mechanic is transforming between vehicle and robot mode on the fly; you drive fast to get around, then shift to fight with punches, kicks, or a ranged weapon. The game has a moderate pace, not too frantic, but the controls take some getting used to, especially aiming attacks. It feels satisfying to finally get the hang of switching forms smoothly and plowing through enemy robots.
