Play Transformers - Autobots (v01) Online

You smash through city blocks as Optimus, flip into a truck to dodge Decepticon fire, and pull off those crunchy transformation animations that still feel great years later. The touchscreen controls take some getting used to, but plowing through traffic as a giant robot never stops being ridiculous.

Game Overview

Transformers: Autobots came out on the Nintendo DS in 2007, published by Activision. It was part of that wave of tie-in games for the first live-action movie, and it felt very much like a product of its time, built for quick sessions on the go. The DS hardware wasn't exactly built for huge 3D worlds, so the developers had to get creative with how they translated giant robot action onto the small screens.

You play as a custom-created Autobot, fighting through city streets and industrial zones to stop the Decepticons. The game mixes third-person combat with vehicle sections; you punch and shoot enemies in robot mode, then transform to race across the map or escape incoming attacks. Mission structure is straightforward, usually involving protecting allies, destroying key targets, or racing to a location before time runs out. The touch screen is used for special attacks and managing your weapons, which adds a tactile layer to the action. It can feel a bit repetitive after a while, and the camera sometimes fights you in close quarters, but there's a simple joy in switching forms mid-fight and causing havoc in both modes. Driving off a ramp, transforming in mid-air, and landing with your guns blazing still delivers a solid thrill.
