Game Overview

Tsuppari Oozumou: Risshin Shusse Hen came out for the Super Nintendo in 1993, developed by K. Amusement Leasing Co. It was one of those mid-lifecycle SNES releases that explored a niche sport, sumo wrestling, without much fanfare. You don't see many games like it, even now.

You control a young sumo wrestler aiming to climb the ranks from the lowest division to yokozuna. The core of the game is timing your thrusts and shoves to break an opponent's balance and push them out of the ring or make them touch the ground. Matches are fast and decisive; a single mistimed move can end a bout instantly. Between tournaments, you manage training to build your wrestler's strength and technique. It feels tense and immediate, like every shove really matters.
