Game Overview

Varth: Operation Thunderstorm is one of those classic arcade shooters where you’re constantly dodging bullets while trying not to crash into enemy planes. It’s got that old-school 1942 vibe but with a weird sci-fi twist—some rogue AI named DUO has taken over a supercomputer, and you’re stuck flying outdated ships to stop it. Feels like they sent you to a war with a slingshot.

You start off weak, but grabbing those floating pods changes everything. They latch onto your ship as either fixed shields or smart ones that move with you, plus they add extra firepower. The weapons feel satisfying—especially the spread shot when you’re swarmed, or the homing missiles when you just want things to die without aiming. And yeah, there’s a panic bomb button for when things get ridiculous (they will).

Boss fights are brutal in the best way. You’ll memorize patterns, swear at the screen, and then finally beat them by the skin of your teeth. It’s the kind of game where one credit lasts either 30 seconds or 10 minutes, depending on how awake your reflexes are. If you like arcade shooters that don’t hold your hand, this one’s a solid time capsule.
