Vault Assault is a 1982 Atari 2600 game from Apollo. It was one of many arcade-style releases for the system, built around a simple but tense premise.

You control a small base at the bottom of the screen, using the joystick to move left and right while firing upward. Enemy ships fly in from the top; when shot, they turn into mines that slowly drift downward. You must shoot the mines before they reach your base or detonate on their own. The pace starts manageable but quickly escalates as more enemies appear, often filling the screen with hazards. It feels frantic and demanding, a constant test of reflexes and precision under pressure.
