ZorkQuest: Assault on Egreth Castle is one of those weird, late-80s hybrids—part text adventure, part comic book, all moody atmosphere. You’re basically flipping through these illustrated panels while typing commands like you would in classic Zork, except now you’ve got trolls glaring at you from the margins and a deranged wizard pulling the strings.

What’s cool is you switch between different characters—a knight, a thief, that kind of thing—and their stories overlap in ways you only notice on repeat playthroughs. First time I played, I missed half the connections because I didn’t realize the bard’s drunken rant actually explained the wizard’s backstory. Classic Infocom, hiding lore in throwaway lines.

The art’s got that grimy, ink-heavy comic style that makes the castle feel properly haunted. Night gaunts lurking in the corners, hobgoblins leering from doorways—it’s more immersive than you’d expect from something running on a Commodore 64. Just don’t go in expecting fast-paced action; this is all about slow-burn storytelling and figuring out how to not get eaten by the scenery.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
