Game Overview

Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal came out in 1996 for MS-DOS, developed by Blizzard Entertainment. It was an expansion to the original Warcraft II, adding new campaigns and units during a time when real-time strategy games were gaining traction on PC. The game fit right into that era, offering more of what players already enjoyed without reinventing the wheel.

You command either the Alliance or the Horde, building bases, gathering resources like gold and lumber, and training armies to crush the enemy. The main goal is to destroy opposing structures while defending your own. Key mechanics include managing multiple unit types with unique abilities, such as casting spells with Death Knights or deploying gryphon riders for aerial strikes. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can be punishing if you fall behind on resources or scouting. It feels tense and rewarding when your strategies finally pay off.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
