Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal is an expansion pack for Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness, deepening the conflict between the Human Alliance and the Orcish Horde. The story picks up after the events of the base game, with the Alliance attempting to seal the Dark Portal permanently by invading the Orcs' home world of Draenor. Meanwhile, the Orcs, now led by the cunning Ner’zhul, seek to plunder Azeroth for powerful artifacts to open portals to new worlds. The expansion introduces two 12-mission campaigns—one for each faction—along with 50 new maps, a fresh tile set for Draenor, and unique hero units with enhanced abilities.

While Beyond the Dark Portal doesn’t add new standard units, it enriches the strategic depth of Warcraft II with challenging missions and lore-driven objectives. The expansion maintains the core real-time strategy gameplay, focusing on base-building, resource management, and tactical combat. Though the map editor wasn’t updated to include new features, dedicated fans have created third-party tools to unlock them. Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
