Game Overview

Man, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? Deluxe on MS-DOS was my childhood. You start off in this little detective agency, picking which of Carmen’s goons to chase—I always went for Patty Larceny first because, well, the name. Then you’re suddenly flipping through a pixelated world atlas, trying to figure out if the suspect fled to Oslo or Osaka based on some ridiculously vague clue like "they mentioned fjords."

The CD-ROM version was a big deal back then—actual voice acting, grainy live-action cutscenes of mustachioed villains laughing at you, and this smooth jazz soundtrack that somehow made geography feel cool. Half the time I had no idea where Timbuktu was, but by the third case, I could rattle off capital cities like a tiny, over-caffeinated trivia champ.

It’s still weirdly satisfying when you finally corner some thief in Buenos Aires after chasing them through five wrong countries. Just don’t forget to get that arrest warrant first—learned that the hard way.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
