Game Overview

Wing Commander: Academy came out in 1993, part of the MS-DOS Classic Games lineup from ORIGIN Systems. It was a spin-off from the main Wing Commander series, offering a more focused, mission-based experience during a time when space combat sims were pushing the limits of what PCs could handle.

You control a rookie pilot training at the Flight Academy, flying simulated combat missions against Kilrathi fighters. The main objective is to complete each assigned sortie, which often involves dogfighting, escort duty, or patrols through asteroid fields and nebulae. Two signature mechanics are the mission editor, which lets you build and fly custom scenarios, and the ability to replay missions with different loadouts or strategies. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can spike sharply if you're careless with energy management or positioning. It feels like running drills in a high-stakes flight simulator where every mistake costs you.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
