Ys [hM02] is an NES action-RPG where you play as Adol, swinging your sword through waves of monsters in that classic bump combat style. The first thing you notice is how fast-paced it feels—no turn-based waiting, just charging into enemies head-on.

It’s rough around the edges, though. The hit detection takes getting used to, and sometimes you’ll swear an attack should’ve landed. But there’s something satisfying about grinding for better gear and slowly pushing deeper into Ys’s world.

If you can adjust to its quirks, Ys [hM02] has a weird charm—especially if you’re into old-school dungeon crawling with a simple but addictive loop.
