Game Overview

I first played Aces over Europe back in the 90s, when Sierra On-Line released it for MS-DOS. It was part of that wave of flight sims that tried to balance realism with approachability, and it fit right in with the expectations of the era. You didn't need a fancy joystick to get started, but it certainly helped with the immersion.

In the game, you take command of Allied fighter pilots across key campaigns in World War II. Your main goal is to complete mission objectives, which usually involve escorting bombers, intercepting enemy aircraft, or attacking ground targets. The flight model gives the planes a convincing sense of momentum; banking and aiming require careful adjustment. You manage engine power, watch your fuel, and toggle between different weapon systems depending on the target. The pacing is deliberate, with moments of calm navigation punctuated by intense dogfights that demand quick reflexes. It feels like a genuine test of both planning and skill under pressure.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
