Game Overview

Advanced Destroyer Simulator is one of those weirdly detailed MS-DOS naval sims from 1990 where you actually have to figure out how to operate a warship—not just point and shoot. The first time I booted it up, I spent like 10 minutes just trying to remember which keyboard command adjusted the radar range before some pixelated enemy bomber showed up and wrecked me.

You’re juggling everything from engine power to weapon systems, and the controls feel like they were designed for actual naval officers. But once it clicks, there’s something satisfying about manually plotting intercept courses against enemy subs or scrambling to reload torpedo tubes while under fire. The missions throw all kinds of scenarios at you, from escort duty to full-on fleet battles where the screen gets cluttered with tiny ship sprites and explosion animations.

It’s janky by today’s standards, but if you’ve got patience for old-school sims, this one’s a surprisingly deep time capsule.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
