Bad Dudes vs. Dragonninja came out in arcades in 1988 from Data East, a time when side scrolling beat 'em ups were everywhere. It didn't try to be the most complex game on the block, but it had a certain charm with its ridiculous premise and straightforward action. You just picked it up and started playing without needing a manual.

You control one of two martial artists, Blade or Striker, fighting through waves of enemies across city streets, dojos, and a speeding semi truck. Your main goal is to rescue President Ronnie from the ninja clan that kidnapped him. The game moves screen by screen, clearing each area of foes before you can advance. You have a basic punch and jump kick, but you can also pick up weapons like a sword or a bow for more powerful attacks. Enemies drop hamburgers to restore your health, which is a nice touch. The pacing is fast and the difficulty can get pretty steep, especially when the screen fills up with ninjas throwing stars. It feels like a chaotic, slightly janky cartoon brawl from start to finish.
