Game Overview

Beneath Apple Manor, released by Quality Software in 1982 for MS-DOS, was one of those early dungeon crawlers that felt both simple and punishing. It arrived before many conventions were set, offering a raw, grid-based adventure where every step mattered. You moved through a world built from text characters, a common sight at the time, but the tension it created was distinctly its own.

You control a lone adventurer descending level by level into a monster-filled dungeon, hunting for the Golden Apple. Movement is turn-based and grid-based; each step forward, each door opened, could reveal treasure or a sudden enemy. Combat is straightforward, often resolved by bumping into foes or using items you find, like throwing daggers or potions. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, because mistakes are costly and death comes quickly. It feels like a tense, cautious puzzle where survival depends on careful movement and resource management.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
