Blue Dragon - Awakened Shadow is one of those DS RPGs that somehow flew under the radar, which is a shame because it’s got this weirdly satisfying combat system where your shadow creatures do most of the fighting. At first I thought it’d be another turn-based slog, but nope—you’re running around in real time, dodging attacks while your shadow wolf or whatever tears into enemies. The story’s pretty standard "save the world" stuff, but the way your powers grow as you explore actually makes it feel like you’re uncovering something ancient.

Also, the environments switch up constantly—one minute you’re in a dusty canyon, the next you’re sneaking through some high-tech ruins. And yeah, the DS graphics show their age, but there’s charm in how they crammed so much into this little cartridge. If you ever played the first Blue Dragon and wondered what a more action-heavy version would feel like, this is it.
