Blue Dragon: Awakened Shadow came out on the Nintendo DS in 2010, developed by Mistwalker and published by Nintendo. You control a custom-created hero who wakes up with no memory, fighting alongside returning characters like Shu and Jiro. The main goal is to uncover the source of a new threat while exploring interconnected areas and dungeons screen by screen. Combat blends real-time movement for dodging with a menu for selecting turn-based skills and spells. A key mechanic is morphing your shadow creature into different classes mid-battle, like switching from a warrior to a healer to adapt to enemy attacks. The pacing is methodical, with a moderate difficulty that asks you to pay attention to your party's composition and equipment. It feels tactical and responsive, especially when you successfully chain abilities and class changes to overcome a tough boss.
