Game Overview

Civil War came out in 1995 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, developed by 3D6 Games. It was a time when strategy titles were often deep, turn-based affairs, and this one fit right in, offering a focused take on the American Civil War without the bloat of some larger simulations. You get a clear, chess-like board and the tension of divided loyalties, all running on machines that demanded more patience than power.

You control either the Union or Confederate forces, moving regiments and leaders across a hexagonal map of the eastern United States. The main objective is to capture key cities and wear down the enemy's will to fight, represented by their national morale. Signature mechanics include supply line management, where cutting off enemy units cripples their effectiveness, and leader-based initiative rolls that determine who moves first each turn. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, with each decision carrying weight; the difficulty comes from outmaneuvering a opponent who knows the terrain as well as you do. It feels like conducting a slow, bloody orchestra where every instrument is a brigade, and the only song is victory or defeat.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
