Game Overview

Clay Fighter came out on the Super Nintendo in 1993, developed by Visual Concepts and published by Interplay. It was a strange entry in the SNES library, a time when fighting games were everywhere, but this one stood out because everything, from the characters to the backgrounds, was made to look like it was sculpted from clay.

You pick a fighter, like the stretchy candy man Bonker or the melting Blob, and battle another character across a few rounds. The main goal is to deplete your opponent's health bar using punches, kicks, and special moves that often involve the character morphing into a weird shape. The pacing is a bit slower than other fighters, and the hit detection can feel a little off, which adds to its odd charm. It feels silly and unpredictable, like playing with action figures that have come to life.
