Game Overview

Commander Keen 2: The Earth Explodes came out in 1990, part of the early wave of MS-DOS platformers from id Software. It followed the first game closely, continuing the story of Billy Blaze, an eight-year-old who builds a spaceship in his backyard and becomes the galactic protector Commander Keen. The game ran on the same engine as its predecessor, with colorful, side-scrolling levels that felt expansive for the time, even with the hardware limitations.

You control Keen as he explores alien landscapes, hopping across platforms and bouncing on a pogo stick to reach higher ground. Your main goal is to shut down the mothership's doomsday device before it destroys Earth. The game is structured screen by screen, with hidden areas often tucked just out of view. You collect keycards to progress, avoid or stun enemies with your ray gun, and solve simple environmental puzzles. The pacing is brisk, but the difficulty can spike in later stages, especially with precise jumps and enemy patterns. It feels like a clever, compact adventure that rewards curiosity and quick reflexes.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
