Game Overview

Commander Keen 4 is one of those classic MS-DOS platformers that just sticks with you. You start off with Keen tinkering with his homemade FTL radio—only to overhear the Shikadi plotting to wreck the galaxy. Typical day for an 8-year-old genius, right?

The levels here are massive compared to the earlier games, packed with weird little secrets and some surprisingly tough jumps. You’ll bounce between floating islands, creepy alien temples, and underground tunnels, all while dodging these floating eyeball enemies that somehow feel way more annoying than they should. The first time I played, I got stuck for ages on that one section with the disappearing platforms near the oracle temple.

Rescuing the eight elders sounds straightforward, but half the fun is figuring out how to even reach them—some are hidden behind puzzles or tucked away in corners you’d miss if you weren’t poking at every wall. And yeah, the Shikadi are still the worst. The game holds up surprisingly well if you can handle the old-school difficulty spikes.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
