Game Overview

Cosmic Creeps is one of those Atari 2600 games that starts simple and then slowly drives you mad in the best way. You play as an Orbinaut trying to evacuate kids from a dying planet—except everything in space wants to ruin your day. Plasma bolts rain down, weird bug-like "Space Skeeters" zip across the screen, and if anything touches you? Instant spin-out into the void. The controls are straightforward, but timing your moves between hazards gets tense fast.

Then comes the real panic: the rescue phase. Kids shuffle in this awkward zig-zag path upward while Creeps chase them, and you’ve got to shoot the monsters without accidentally blasting the kids. Mess up, and the planet’s orbit decays faster—which is just the game’s way of saying "hurry up or lose." The scoring’s brutal too; saving a kid nets you 1500 points, but good luck hitting that 5000-point goal before everything speeds up. It’s the kind of game where you’ll yell at the screen after the third near-miss.

Honestly, half the fun is watching the planet’s orbit meter drain while you scramble. You’ll either love it or rage-quit by level three.
