Game Overview

I picked up Dinosaur for the Game Boy Color back when it came out in Europe. It was one of those unlicensed titles that floated around; I don't recall who exactly made it, but it fit right in with the era's appetite for portable adventures, even the rougher ones. You control a small, nameless explorer who's been dropped into a prehistoric world full of dinosaurs and ancient hazards. The goal is straightforward: survive the wilderness, gather key items, and find a way to escape.

You move screen by screen through forests, caves, and swampy areas, jumping over pits and climbing vines to progress. Combat is simple; you throw rocks or use a basic melee attack to fend off smaller dinosaurs, but the bigger ones require evasion rather than confrontation. You'll push blocks, hunt for hidden switches, and collect items like torches to light dark areas or special keys to open new paths. The game moves at a deliberate pace, and the difficulty comes from limited resources and some unforgiving enemy placements. It feels tense and scrappy, like every screen could be your last if you aren't paying attention.
