Game Overview

Dungeons & Dragons Tactics on PSP is basically the closest you'll get to playing tabletop D&D 3.5 Edition by yourself—just with way more button presses and way less arguing about rules. You start by building your party from scratch (or grabbing pre-made characters if you're impatient), choosing from all the classic classes plus some psionic weirdos. I went with a grumpy dwarf cleric leading the group, which turned out to be a good call when we kept stumbling into undead ambushes.

The combat's the real star here—turn-based battles play out on a grid where positioning actually matters. Flanking an ogre with your rogue while your wizard desperately tries not to get squished feels just like a proper D&D session, minus the pizza stains on your character sheet. The interface takes some getting used to, but there's a decent glossary if you forget what a "fortitude save" is supposed to be.

There's even wireless multiplayer if you can find another PSP owner who still remembers this game exists. Just don't get too attached to your custom characters—they're banned from the deathmatch mode for some reason.
