Game Overview

I first played Eye of the Storm back in 1993, a release from the MS-DOS Classic Games collection. It was developed by a small team, and it fit right in with the kind of experimental shooters that were popping up on PC at the time. The graphics were functional, the sound was crunchy, and it didn't try to be anything more than a solid, challenging arcade-style experience.

You pilot a small, nimble fighter through a series of vertically scrolling stages, weaving through dense patterns of enemy fire while taking down waves of alien craft. The main goal is survival, clearing each screen of foes to progress. Two mechanics stand out: collecting power-ups that change your weapon, like switching from standard shots to homing missiles, and the way enemy numbers suddenly spike after you grab an upgrade, forcing quick adaptation. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is unforgiving, especially in later levels where the screen becomes a maze of projectiles. It feels like a constant, tense dance between evasion and aggression, where one wrong move ends your run.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
