Game Overview

Final Fantasy on the NES is where it all started—back when Square was just Square, not Square-Enix, and nobody knew this weird little RPG would turn into a massive franchise. You pick four characters from a lineup of classic jobs (fighter, thief, white mage, etc.), and honestly, I always took two fighters because magic points run out way too fast early on.

The world feels huge for an 8-bit game, even if the graphics are super basic now. You wander towns talking to NPCs in that charmingly stiff NES dialogue, then grind battles to afford better gear before tackling the next dungeon. The music? Still iconic. That overworld theme sticks in your head forever.

It’s clunky by modern standards, but there’s something special about how raw and ambitious it was for 1987. You can see the bones of everything people still love about RPGs today.
