Final Fantasy V Advance came out on the Game Boy Advance in 2006, a port handled by Square Enix and Nintendo. It was a solid RPG to have in your pocket during that era, a time when portable games were really starting to offer deep, console-like adventures without needing to be tethered to a TV.
You control a party of four heroes, led by a wanderer named Bartz, as you travel across the world to stop the ancient evil sealed within the crystals from breaking free. The real heart of the game is the Job System, which lets you assign roles like Knight, Black Mage, or Monk to your characters and mix their abilities to create a custom party. You explore towns and dungeons screen by screen, engage in turn based combat against monsters, and steadily collect new spells and better gear. The pacing is methodical, and some boss fights demand careful strategy with your job combinations. It feels rewarding to build your party exactly how you want and see your planning pay off in a tough battle.
