Game Overview

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood for the PlayStation Portable came out in 2010, published by Bandai Namco Games. It was one of those solid anime adaptations that felt right at home on the PSP, a system that had its share of action titles and portable adventures. The game follows the Elric brothers through key events of the Brotherhood storyline, offering a straightforward, action-focused experience without overcomplicating things.

You control Edward Elric, with Al occasionally joining in for support, as you move through side-scrolling stages fighting homunculi and soldiers. The main goal is to advance through each level, defeat bosses, and uncover pieces of the narrative. Signature mechanics include using alchemy to shape the environment into weapons or barriers, and performing team attacks with Alphonse for extra damage. The pacing is brisk, with moderate difficulty that spikes during boss encounters. It feels satisfying to land a well-timed transmutation and watch enemies get thrown across the screen.
