Play Guitar Scales and Modes Online

Staring at guitar scales finally makes sense—your keyboard becomes a fretboard, and those blocky MS-DOS menus somehow turn modes like Mixolydian into something you can actually play with. The beepy MIDI sounds and no-frills interface just click when you’re drilling scales.

Game Overview

Ever tried learning guitar scales and felt like you were staring at hieroglyphics? Guitar Scales and Modes for MS-DOS turns that confusion into something actually approachable—just you, your keyboard, and a surprisingly intuitive way to visualize the fretboard. The first time I booted it up, I expected another dry music theory slog, but within minutes I was noodling around with Mixolydian mode like I half-knew what I was doing.

The whole thing looks like it was coded in someone’s basement (because, well, it probably was), but that’s part of the charm. Blocky menus, beepy MIDI tones, zero flash—just pure, unfiltered scale drills. It’s the kind of no-nonsense tool that makes you realize how much modern apps overcomplicate things. And yeah, if you squint, you can almost pretend your numpad is a tiny, very rectangular guitar.

Perfect for when you want to train your ears and fingers without dragging out your actual axe. Just don’t blame me when you start muttering things like “Ah, so THAT’S why Lydian sounds spacey” at parties.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
