Game Overview

Heroes of Might and Magic II: Gold came out in 1998 for MS-DOS, published by The 3DO Company. It was part of that wave of deep, turn-based strategy games that really defined PC gaming in the late 90s, before everything shifted toward real-time and 3D. You could easily lose whole afternoons to it, just moving your heroes across those colorful, detailed maps.

You control one or more hero characters, each leading an army of creatures you recruit from towns you capture or build. The main goal is to explore the map, gather resources, defeat enemy heroes, and conquer all enemy towns. Key mechanics include exploring the world screen by screen, engaging in tactical turn-based combat on a grid, and developing your castles with new structures and unit upgrades. The pacing is deliberate; some scenarios can take many hours, and the difficulty encourages careful planning. It feels like conducting a long, satisfying campaign where every troop movement and resource allocation has weight.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
