IndyCar Racing II came out in 1996 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, developed by Papyrus Design Group. It arrived at a time when racing sims were starting to push the limits of what home computers could handle, offering a serious alternative to arcade racers. The game focused on the IndyCar series, capturing the look and feel of open-wheel racing in that era without overpromising on flash.

You control a single-seater race car, managing throttle, brakes, and steering across a variety of oval and road courses. The main goal is to qualify well and finish races, balancing aggression with tire and fuel conservation. Key mechanics include tuning your car's setup before each event and navigating traffic against opponents that actively block and defend their lines. The pace is demanding; one mistake can send you into the wall or put you a lap down. It feels raw and mechanical, connecting you directly to the car's behavior and the track surface.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
