Jeff Gordon XS Racing came out in 1999 for the Game Boy Color, published by ASC Games. It was part of a wave of racing titles trying to capture some of that NASCAR energy on handhelds, back when pixel art and chiptune engines were the standard. The game let you step into the role of Jeff Gordon himself, or choose from a few other drivers, to compete across a season of oval tracks.

You control your stock car from a top-down perspective, managing your speed and trying to hold tight racing lines through each lap. The main goal is to win races, climb the standings, and eventually take the championship. Key mechanics include drafting behind opponents to slingshot past them and carefully managing your limited nitrous boosts for crucial moments on straights. The AI is aggressive; they block, they bump, and mistakes are punished hard. It feels tense and focused, like every corner could cost you the race.
