Game Overview

Klax came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990, published by Tengen. It was part of that wave of puzzle games that really took off after Tetris, offering something a little different for players who liked to think on their feet. The NES had plenty of action and adventure titles, but Klax stood out for its straightforward, almost hypnotic focus on pattern matching and quick decisions.

You control a paddle at the bottom of the screen, catching colored tiles as they slide down a conveyor belt toward you. Your goal is to arrange these tiles into rows, columns, or diagonals of the same color; once you form a Klax (a set of three or more matching tiles), they disappear. The main mechanics involve not just catching tiles, but also tossing them back up temporarily or dropping them into one of five lanes to set up future matches. The pace starts manageable but steadily increases, demanding faster reactions and more foresight as you advance. It feels like a race against your own ability to plan under pressure.
