Klax on MS-DOS came out in 1990 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, published by Atari Games. It was one of those straightforward puzzle games that fit right into the era, where you didn't need a complicated backstory or flashy graphics to get hooked. It was just you, a conveyor belt, and a relentless stream of colored tiles.
You control a paddle at the bottom of the screen, catching falling tiles and placing them into rows on a grid. The main goal is to form lines or patterns of matching colors, called Klaxes, to clear them and prevent the screen from filling up. Key mechanics include the ability to flip tiles back up the conveyor to buy time, and wildcard tiles that can substitute for any color. The pace starts deceptively calm but quickly becomes frantic as the speed increases and the patterns grow more demanding. It feels like a constant race against the machine, where every move counts and one mistake can cascade into chaos.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
