Game Overview

Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky is one of those JRPGs that starts slow but sinks its hooks in deep. You play as Estelle, this spunky girl training to become a "bracer" (basically a licensed adventurer), and the game wastes no time throwing you into its world—first with some lighthearted fetch quests, then suddenly with political intrigue and a mystery involving your missing dad.

The combat’s turn-based but with a twist: positioning matters, and you can delay enemy turns or combo arts for big damage. I remember getting wrecked by the first major boss until I realized I could shove enemies into each other with knockback attacks. The writing’s full of charm too—Estelle and her adoptive brother Joshua bicker like real siblings, and even random NPCs have their own little story arcs if you revisit towns.

Fair warning: it’s text-heavy, and the PSP’s tiny screen makes the dialogue feel even denser. But if you stick with it, there’s a surprisingly mature story underneath all the anime tropes.
