Game Overview

Maze Craze came out for the Atari 2600 in 1978, published by Atari themselves. It was one of those early maze games that felt right at home on the system, simple in concept but surprisingly engaging, especially with a friend. It didn't try to be anything more than a straightforward race through a grid, and that was its charm.

You control a small square, moving screen by screen through a maze that changes every time you play. The main goal is to reach the exit before your opponent does, or just beat the clock in single player. You're constantly turning corners, bumping into dead ends, and trying to memorize the layout on the fly. The mazes are randomly generated, so you can't just learn a pattern; you have to react quickly. It feels frantic and a little clumsy, but in a way that makes you want to try just one more time.
