Game Overview

MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat came out in 1995 for MS-DOS, published by Activision. It was one of those games that really pushed what PCs could do at the time, with detailed 3D graphics and a sense of scale that felt new. You stepped into a future of interplanetary conflict, joining either the Clan Jade Falcon or Clan Wolf in their bitter campaign.

You control a BattleMech, a towering war machine loaded with lasers, missiles, and autocannons. Your main goal is to complete missions like destroying enemy bases or defending allies, all while managing your mech's heat levels and armor integrity. Signature mechanics include customizing your loadout before each drop, targeting specific enemy components to disable them, and monitoring your heat gauge to avoid shutdowns in the middle of a fight. The pacing is deliberate; you move slowly, make each shot count, and often find yourself outgunned. It feels tense and immersive, like you're really crammed into that cockpit trying to survive one more engagement.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
