Game Overview

Might and Magic: Swords of Xeen came out in 1995 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games lineup, developed by New World Computing. It was a standalone expansion that bridged the worlds of Might and Magic IV and V, offering a familiar grid-based crawl for players who were already deep into that style of RPG. At the time, it felt like a solid, no-frills continuation of a formula that worked, without trying to reinvent the wheel.

You control a party of up to six adventurers, navigating the world of Xeen one square at a time, fighting monsters in turn-based combat, and hunting for keys and quest items. The main goal involves exploring both the surface and extensive dungeons to gather the five Swords of Xeen and confront the villain, Lord Xeen. Combat relies on managing your party's front and back rows, using melee, spells, and ranged attacks strategically, while resource management for spells and hit points keeps tension high. The pacing is deliberate, sometimes slow, with a difficulty that punishes careless exploration but rewards thoroughness. It feels like a methodical, sometimes unforgiving puzzle box that makes every cleared screen and discovered secret genuinely satisfying.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
