Game Overview

PGA Tour Golf for the Sega Master System came out in 1990, developed by Polygames and published by Sega. It was one of the few golf titles available on the system, offering an 8-bit take on the sport during a time when most golf games were still fairly basic in their presentation and mechanics.

You control a golfer through a full 18 holes, aiming to finish under par. The main view is an overhead perspective of the course, and you switch to a side view for putting. You adjust your aim and power with the D-pad, then time your swing with a button press. Wind direction and strength affect every shot, and hazards like sand traps and water come into play often. The game moves at a deliberate pace, and the challenge feels fair but requires focus. It captures the tension of lining up a long putt or trying to avoid a bunker with satisfying simplicity.
