Game Overview

Rescue Heroes: Fire Frenzy came out in 2001 for the Game Boy Color, developed by M4 and published by Mattel. It was part of that wave of licensed kids' games that filled the portable library back then, straightforward and built around a toy line. You don't see many people talk about it now, but it had its own simple charm.

You control one of the Rescue Heroes, moving through side-scrolling and top-down stages putting out fires, rescuing civilians, and avoiding hazards like collapsing ceilings or spreading flames. The main goal is to complete each mission without losing all your health, using your water hose to douse fires and occasionally shift debris. The game shifts perspective between levels, which keeps things visually varied, and you often have to manage your water supply, making you careful about when to spray. It's not especially long or deep, but there's a tactile satisfaction in watching the fire recede as you work; it feels like tidying up chaos, one burst of water at a time.
