I first played Rings of the Magi back in the mid-90s, when it came out as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection. Cyberlore Studios developed it, and it fit right in with the kind of experimental, puzzle-focused titles that were common on the platform at the time. It wasn't trying to be a big, flashy release; it had a simple premise and a clear focus, which made it stand out in its own quiet way.

You control a young wizard navigating a series of single-screen puzzle rooms, flinging colored rings at monsters and obstacles to build spells. The main goal is to clear each stage by hitting all the targets, often while avoiding enemy projectiles or navigating environmental hazards. Signature mechanics include chaining ring throws to create combo effects and managing a limited inventory of ring types, each with different properties. The pacing starts relaxed but quickly becomes frantic as enemy patterns intensify and screen layouts grow more complex. It feels like a tense, tactical dance where every throw matters and mistakes cost you dearly.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
