Rip-Tide Racer is one of those Game Boy Color games that somehow slipped under the radar—which is a shame, because it’s a total blast. You’re basically racing jet skis through wild river courses, dodging rocks, logs, and whatever else the water throws at you. The controls are surprisingly sharp for a GBC racer—lean into turns just right, and you’ll skim past obstacles with inches to spare.

What I love is how chaotic it gets. One second you’re cruising, the next you’re getting tossed around by rapids or launching off a waterfall. The sprite work pops for a handheld this old, especially when you catch air and the screen blurs just enough to sell the speed. And yeah, it’s got that ‘90s arcade vibe where every race feels like a high-score chase.
