Rush and Attack came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985, developed by Konami. It was part of that wave of early NES games that felt a little rough around the edges but had a clear, aggressive idea. You play as a soldier trying to rescue a captured comrade from behind enemy lines, and the game wastes no time throwing you into the action.
You control a commando who moves from left to right, screen by screen, through a military base. Your main weapon is a knife you can throw, but you also find temporary power-ups like a flamethrower or a bazooka. The real signature move is the bayonet charge; you hold down the B button to build up speed, then release to lunge forward and impale an enemy. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is punishing, with enemies swarming from all sides and instant death from most hits. It feels like a desperate, frantic scramble where every mistake costs you.
