Game Overview

Shadow of the Comet is this weird, slow-burn horror adventure from the '90s where you play as John Parker, a British photographer heading to a creepy New England town called Illsmouth (basically Lovecraft’s Innsmouth with the serial numbers filed off). He’s there to photograph Halley’s Comet in 1910, but of course, nothing goes as planned.

The setup’s great—you dig through old notes left by a guy named Boleskine, who went mad the last time the comet showed up in 1834. The town’s full of shady characters who clearly know more than they’re letting on, and you spend most of your time poking around, talking to locals, and trying not to get killed before the comet arrives. The atmosphere is thick with dread, and some of the puzzles are downright cruel by modern standards, but it’s got that classic point-and-click charm.

If you’re into Lovecraftian horror and don’t mind pixel-hunting for obscure clues, this one’s a trip. Just don’t expect to sleep well after meeting the locals.
