Game Overview
Man, Sonic Advance was such a weird moment in gaming history—Sega’s mascot finally showing up on a Nintendo handheld after years of rivalry. It feels like classic Sonic, but with just enough tweaks to make it fresh. The levels are fast, the sprites are crisp, and those little GBA shoulder buttons actually work great for spin-dashing.
First thing you’ll notice? The physics aren’t quite Genesis-perfect—Sonic slides a tiny bit more when stopping—but after a zone or two, it clicks. And playing as Tails or Knuckles again in a proper 2D game? Pure nostalgia. The special stages are brutal, though. I still haven’t unlocked all the Chaos Emeralds.
Funny how this little cart spawned a whole GBA series. It’s not perfect, but it’s way better than it had any right to be.
