Game Overview

Spelljammer: Pirates of Realmspace came out in 1992 for MS-DOS, developed by Cybertech. It was part of that wave of early 90s PC games that tried to translate tabletop roleplaying into something you could play with a keyboard and mouse. The setting was wild: D&D, but in space, with sailing ships that flew between crystal spheres.

You command a spelljamming ship and its crew, exploring star systems, trading goods, and getting into trouble. The main goal is to build your reputation and wealth, often by taking on contracts or just plundering other vessels. Key mechanics include real-time space combat, where you manage weapon arcs and spell-powered artillery, and first-person boarding actions where you fight crew-to-creep with swords or spells. The pacing is deliberate, sometimes slow, with a fair amount of micromanagement and random encounters that keep you alert. It feels like being the captain of a rickety, magical ship barely held together by luck and firepower.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
