Game Overview

Star Wars for the NES came out in 1991, developed by Beam Software and published by Victor Musical Industries. It was one of those licensed games from that era that tried to cover a lot of ground, fitting the whole original film into a single cartridge. You could find it on a shelf next to other ambitious, sometimes clumsy, movie adaptations.

You control Luke Skywalker through side-scrolling platforming levels, blasting stormtroopers with your blaster and later using a lightsaber. The main goal is to progress through the story of A New Hope, from the Tantive IV to the Death Star trench run. The game shifts between on-foot action and first-person flight segments where you pilot an X-wing. It's known for its high difficulty, especially the precise jumping required in some sections and the unforgiving enemy patterns. Playing it feels like wrestling with an old, stubborn machine that occasionally rewards you with a genuine moment of success.
