Star Wars for the NES was originally released in Japan by Namco, though this version is an English translation by Mukimuki and Shinta. It came out during a time when licensed games were often simple platformers, but this one tried to cover a lot of ground from the original film.

You control Luke Skywalker through side-scrolling levels where you use your lightsaber to deflect blaster bolts and jump across platforms. The main goal is to progress through scenes like the Death Star escape and the trench run. Two key mechanics are the auto-scrolling speeder bike stage and the first-person shooting segments against TIE fighters. The game shifts pace abruptly between action and slower exploration, and it can be quite difficult due to limited continues. It feels uneven but ambitious, like the developers really tried to fit the whole movie into one cartridge.
