Play Star Wars (Japan) (Namco) Online

You slash through stormtroopers with Luke's stubby lightsaber, then suddenly you're weaving an X-wing through the Death Star trenches—controls are clunky, but nailing that perfect shot on the exhaust port feels great.

Game Overview

Star Wars on NES is this weird little mix of side-scrolling action and space combat—you start off jumping around as Luke with a lightsaber (which feels way too short, honestly), then suddenly you're in an X-wing dodging TIE fighters. The Death Star trench run is actually kind of tense once you get the hang of the janky controls. It's definitely got that old-school Namco charm, though some of the platforming bits will make you want to throw your controller.

Fun fact: The Japanese version has slightly different music and some extra cutscenes. Not bad for a late-80s movie tie-in.
