Game Overview

Star Wars: Rebel Assault came out in 1993 for MS-DOS, developed and published by LucasArts. It was one of those early CD-ROM games that tried to push what PCs could do, especially with its use of full-motion video and digitized footage from the films. For its time, it felt like stepping right into the movies, even if the technology was still finding its feet.

You play as Rookie One, a new pilot in the Rebel Alliance, following a linear series of missions that recreate famous scenes from the original trilogy. Most of the game is an on-rails shooter; you control a targeting reticle to blast TIE fighters, navigate asteroid fields, and take down AT-AT walkers on Hoth. Between action segments, you watch FMV cutscenes that advance the story, and progress is saved through passwords. The difficulty can spike unexpectedly, and some sections demand precise timing and memorization. It feels like a challenging, sometimes unforgiving arcade experience wrapped in a cinematic Star Wars shell.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
