Super Mario Bros 2 (J) is a weird, dreamlike platformer where you toss turnips at enemies instead of jumping on them. The first time I played, it felt off—no Goombas, no fireballs, just pulling radishes out of the ground and chucking them at shy guys.

It’s slower than the first game, more about careful throws and finding hidden doors. The dream world theme gives it this hazy, almost surreal vibe—one minute you’re hopping on clouds, the next you’re in a desert tossing bombs at bird masks.

Some levels drag if you don’t find the shortcuts, but the character switching keeps it fresh. Luigi’s floaty jumps, Mario’s balance, Toad’s speed—each one changes how you approach the same obstacles. Super Mario Bros 2 (J) isn’t what you expect, but that’s what makes it stick in your head.
